Helmut Lang had his breakthrough in 1990 when he used high-tech fabrics like nylon and rubber in his minimalistic creation. Thanks to these untypical fashion-forward designs, he became well known and famous on an international level. Catwalk shows on the Paris-, Milan- and New York Fashion Week were a huge success from that day forward!

Known for his deconstructivistic cuts, Helmut Lang is honourably compared to Japanese avantgardists like Rei Kawakubo and Yohij Yamamoto. In the fashion crowd he is also called „The father of coolness“ because of his iconic clean style in comparison to the already known extravagant collections of the other famous Parisian designers such as Thierry Mugler and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

In April 2000 he was ask in great honour to join the Council of Fashion Designers of America as first non-American fashion designer. Multiple awards and tribute were made in his name from that day on. In 2005 he left his label Helmut Lang completely to work as an artist in Long Island, New York. Today Nicole und Michael Colovos are Creative Director of the Helmut Lang womenswear line and Naoki Takizawa, former Creative Director at Issey Miyake, is in charge of the menswear collection since 2010. This unbeatable trio has already proved their talent in designing and understanding the Helmut Lang philosophy by creating wonderful collections for the past two seasons!
